Dr. Gilliam became interested in medicine in general and specifically in orthopedic surgery after an accident at age 17. The excellent orthopedic care he received allowed him to return to his active lifestyle and he continues to enjoy swimming, skiing, hunting and bicycling. In fact, he has ridden the entire 570-mile Blue Ridge Parkway on a bicycle. His teenage injury also created a desire to help people and provide them the type of care he received. He joined OrthoArkansas in 1990.
Dr. Gilliam graduated from Harding University in Searcy, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and completed an internship and a residency at UAMS. His medical interests are in orthopedic sports medicine, particularly arthroscopic shoulder surgery.
He is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is a member and past president of the Arkansas Orthopedic Society and is a member of the Arkansas Medical Society.
He and his wife, Vanessa, have two children that he calls the delight of his life.
